Start a conversation with your child

Home

A conversation with your child about an incident that has happened online can be daunting. You may not know what to say, how to say it or how they will react. These prompts have been designed by a therapist to enable you to safely talk to your child without fear of blame or punishment.

"I've noticed that you haven't been yourself lately. While your experience and emotions are unique to you, I understand how difficult being a teenager can be and I would like to see if I can help."

"I dont know much about social media but I know that sometimes hurtful things can happen. If something like that happened to you, I want you to know that I would never judge you but I really want to make sure your safe because I care. I would love for you to teach me how you are keeping yourself safe online or is it something that we can work on together? "

"I am wondering if something has happened to you online which has impacted you? I could never force you to talk about it but I want you to know that I am here to listen for whenever you are ready and we can work out a plan together"
